Stock alteration – and another happy customer!
I’d like to share a video testimonial from a very happy client, who first came to me with a badly fitted gun.
They said it couldn’t be done
Vicky Chesters is an instructor for BASC (the British Association for Shooting and Conservation). She originally wanted me to make a new stock, as she’d been told by other gun smiths it couldn’t be bent to the extent that was needed. Another issue – the grip was too large and was subsequently giving her problems with her wrist and hand. And if that wasn’t enough, when she mounted the gun it was twisted.
Now, a new stock would have set Vicky back quite a few pennies. After taking a look at the gun I decided that a stock alteration was perfectly possible (and a much cheaper option for her).
The stock alteration process
My first job was to slim the grip down and re-checker it. The next step was to put it in my jig, wrapping the wrist with cotton (soaked in linseed) and to put the heat lamps on it. I kept continuously applying pressure and basting with linseed… It took me all day but it was worth the effort as it came out absolutely perfect, and to see her happy.
